Re: Sexual Assault Referral Center
Hi All
Thanks Wraith for posting the above, I hope it helps some of those ladies that have been brave enough to talk about their experiences on this board. I also hope it's of some use to those who maybe haven't disclosed abuse but are still trying to come to terms with things that have happened to them. Hull has been short of services to deal with abuse up to now but things look as if they're changing at last. I've just attended the opening of Hull Rape Crisis new premises at 93 Clarendon Street and I was very impressed. They previously worked from one room but now have a whole building in which to carry out their work. They have two full time counsellors and a large team of part time and voluntary counsellors they can call on. I specifically asked if they counsel people who have been victims of childhood abuse and was told that a large percentage of their work deals with 'historical' abuse. They accept self referrals so you don't have to tell anyone else and they will work with friends and family who may also have been affected.
Their confidential help-line 329990 is staffed; Mon 5-7pm, Tues 9.30-10.30am, Weds 4.30-5.30pm, Fri 9.30-10.30am
Information is available on their web site www.hullrapecrisis.org.
